Committee Overview
The Safety Committee, formed through a partnership between the Colorado Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (CSSGA) and the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association (CRMCA), leads efforts to achieve outstanding safety and health standards in Colorado’s aggregate and concrete sectors. We design innovative training programs, such as the acclaimed MSHA Part 46 New Miner Training DVDs, and collaborate with key agencies like the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) to maintain regulatory compliance.
Through advocating best practices, celebrating safety achievements, and tackling potential workplace risks, the committee protects employees while building strong relationships with regulators and local communities.
Key Initiatives
- Advanced Safety Training: Develop and distribute MSHA-approved training materials, including accessible on-demand New Miner Training through the Mine Safety Institute (MSI), equipping Safety Officers and New Miners with critical knowledge and skills.
- Safety Recognition: Oversee prestigious awards, including the Rodman C. Stewart Memorial Leadership Award and the Safety Innovation Award, to spotlight exceptional safety efforts and motivate broader industry improvements.
- Regulatory Partnerships: Facilitate discussions and roundtables with agencies such as MSHA, OSHA, and DOT to ensure industry alignment with the latest safety regulations, aiding Safety Officers and Legislative Advocates.
- Hazard Prevention: Implement targeted programs to minimize accidents involving heavy equipment, while disseminating safety bulletins and practical toolbox talks to enhance worker protection and support Community Educators.
- Community Awareness: Highlight the industry's dedication to safety via social media campaigns and public events, helping to dispel myths and engage Community Educators and Legislative Advocates.
