CRMCA and CSSGA Members and guests at the 2016 Industry Tour.

CRMCA and CSSGA members with regulatory and elected officials at the 2016 Industry Tour.

Hello CRMCA members and the entire material supply industry.  Welcome to the update for October, 2016!  Maybe it’s me, but summer seemed to go by too fast.  While fall is personally my favorite time of the year, I am in no hurry for it, and the winter to follow.  Regardless, here is what’s going on!

  • We have completed our political campaign contributions for the CONCRETE Political Action Committee (PAC).  I need to thank the dedicated individuals and companies who contributed, as well as those who helped interview and provide input on the candidates we endorse.  We continue to support candidates who believe in the items we align with.  These include infrastructure funding and a balance regarding over-regulation of our industry.  It promises to be an interesting race to the finish line on November 8th, especially at the top of the ticket.  Make sure you vote!
  • We also participated in the CSSGA Industry Tour again this year, held on August 23rd.  While not specifically involving concrete, this tour is designed to educate those from the legislative and regulatory branches of our industry, and show them firsthand what happens in the aggregates, and associated downstream businesses.  This years event included a “Lunch & Learn” provided by Martin Marietta, and then a tour of the Albert Frei & Sons quarry by Idaho Springs.  Based on the positive feedback, we plan to continue this annually.

Also, on September 26, CRMCA hosted a very successful “Clay Shoot” at Colorado Clays in Brighton.  This event is a great networking opportunity, in addition to having an exciting way to raise money for our charity of choice, Support a Soldier.  Turns out we have many marksmen in our association.  Unfortunately, I am not included in this group!  However, the great weather, the chance to discuss business in a beautiful outdoor setting, all while helping raise money for our military, made it a great event.  If you missed it, consider participating next year.  You won’t regret it.

  • Lastly, our Annual Conference is just around the corner on November 17 and 18 at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO.  I hope you will participate and consider sponsoring the event as we have a great lineup of speakers and events being finalized. Use this link to register.

I want to again thank everyone for your support of CRMCA and the entire concrete industry.  It is truly your association, and we only accomplish what we do with your participation.  Have a great fall season.
