For the first time, the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association (CRMCA) hosted a statewide, member-driven, Mixer Truck Driver Championship. The event was held on Saturday, August 20, 2022.
The Mixer Truck Driver Championship was a fun event combining the tests of a driver’s skills, knowledge, and awareness in and around a mixer truck. The competition consisted of a written exam, a Safety Check walk-around, and an obstacle course. The first two events are meant to evaluate the driver’s understanding of the truck they drive and the rules and responsibilities of being a mixer truck driver. The third event, the obstacle course, challenges drivers to know the vehicle they drive daily. The obstacle course includes eight to ten stations challenging the drivers to parallel park, back up, stop correctly on a scale, etc., plus additional “bonus” events including bowling and basketball.
The 2022 CRMCA Mixer Truck Driver Championship event was a great start to what could be a yearly event that we hope will continue to grow. The event was held at the JeffCo Fairgrounds, in beautiful, sunny, Colorado weather. This year’s competitors included thirteen mixer truck drivers from across Colorado’s Front Range and mountain areas. In addition, there were nearly twenty volunteers from the industry making the event run smooth, and close to 100 spectators for the free and exciting event!

The first-place winner of the competition will have the opportunity to compete in the National Ready Mixed Concrete (NRMCA) National Mixer Driver Championship being held in Colorado this year on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center in Aurora, CO.
