The Concrete Testing Adherence Collaboration (CTAC) program is a Colorado-based questionnaire that collects and analyzes observations of field testing technicians during concrete placements. Since 2015, CRMCA has been utilizing the program to minimize and eliminate the effects of false negative and positive concrete tests on concrete industry partners. The program continues to assist producers and consultant laboratories in improving testing procedures through the evaluation of concrete testing technicians while on-site following the four main questions of CTAC.
- Is the technician certified?
- Was the concrete sampled correctly?
- Were the tests done correctly?
- Were the specimens subject to proper initial curing?
Over the last year, the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association (CRMCA) has been concentrated on developing the CTAC program for expansion outside of the State. Beginning in the Spring of 2021, the CTAC program was approved for a development grant through the Ready Mixed Concrete (RMC) Research & Education Foundation and presented to State Affiliates at NRMCA’s ConcreteWorks. With the assistance from NRMCA, the program grew interest from several State Associations. CTAC was then presented to those affiliates individually to provide regional understanding and acceptance. Between the Summer 2021 and early Winter 2022, CTAC was introduced to:
- Arizona Rock Products Association
- CalCIMA, California Construction and Industrial Materials Association
- Concrete Ontario, Ready Mixed Concrete Association of Ontario
- Concrete Promotional Group, Kansas City Area
- Oklahoma Ready Mixed Concrete Association
- Washington Aggregates & Concrete Association
- Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association
Now in 2022, the CTAC program is closer than ever to being accessible through North America. With the program and mobile app nearly re-developed and a new reporting system created, the CTAC program is at the Beta Testing stage. The mobile app has been built again from the base for a smoother and more uniform experience. When accessing the questionnaire from a website or cell phone, the experience is similar in looks, feel, and response. The reporting system for the National CTAC program will be accessible with the most up-to-date live information for Company Managers to review employee performance and use this information quickly for training improvement and project team cooperation. Above all, CTAC will be helpful in opening communication across all the concrete industry, not just per project, but also regionally or even nationally.
The CTAC program is anticipated to be released and available within the first Quarter of this year. For access, regional Concrete Associations need to contact the CTAC or CRMCA for initial setup. Companies should reach out to their regional concrete affiliates to share interest in the CTAC program.
