Self-Consolidating Concrete Testing Technician

A SELF-CONSOLIDATING CONCRETE TESTING TECHNICIAN is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge of and ability to properly perform five standard test methods and practices on self-consolidating concrete.

2026 Self-Consolidating Concrete Scheduling Changes:

Shared Sessions
In an effort to maximize our available space, to more efficiently utilize our Supplemental Examiners, and to better accommodate testing needs, all ACI Self-Consolidating Concrete Testing Technician exam sessions will occur in tandem with other exams. These sessions will be referred to as Advanced Lab sessions and will have a shared capacity across four (4) exams: Aggregate Level 2 (Agg 2), Aggregate Base (Agg Base), Laboratory Level 2 (Lab 2), and Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC). Examinees will be allowed to register for up to 2 different exams on the same date if desired.

2026 Advanced Lab Dates [Not Yet Open for Registration]:

PLEASE NOTE: While we do aim to open registrations at the start of the day they’re scheduled to be opened, there may be times where this isn’t possible and registration won’t open until later in the day. This is most likely to happen when the date falls on a Monday or immediately after a Holiday or large CRMCA event. We appreciate your patience and understanding when these situations arise.

*This is the anticipated schedule for 2026. Dates and locations are not expected to change, but may be adjusted if needed.*

Scope and Knowledge:

This program requires demonstration of the knowledge and hands-on skills covered on the Job Task Analysis (JTA):

JTA for ACI Certification Self-Consolidating Concrete Testing Technician

The JTA is a detailed list of specific points of knowledge and skills that may be included in the examinations for this ACI Certification program. ACI urges candidates to use the JTA to prepare for the certification exams.

This program assesses proficiency in the following ASTM test methods and practices:

  • C1610/C1610M – 14—Static Segregation of Self-Consolidating Concrete Using Column Technique
  • C1611/C1611M – 14—Slump Flow of Self-Consolidating Concrete
  • C1621/C1621M – 14—Passing Ability of Self-Consolidating Concrete by J-Ring
  • C1712 – 14—Rapid Assessment of Static Segregation Resistance of Self-Consolidating Concrete Using Penetration Test
  • C1758/C1758M – 15—Fabricating Test Specimens with Self-Consolidating Concrete

Certification Requirements:

ACI will grant certification to candidates who meet both of the following requirements:

  1. Passing score on the written examination, AND
  2. Successful completion of the performance examination.

The one-hour written examination is closed-book and consists of approximately 50 multiple-choice questions. There are between 6-10 questions on each of the ASTM test methods and practices. To pass the written examination, BOTH of the following conditions must be met:

  1. Minimum score of 60% correct for each of the required test methods and practices, AND
  2. Minimum score of 70% overall.

The performance examination is also closed-book and requires actual demonstration of the required test methods and practices. The examinee is assessed on his/her ability to correctly perform (or describe items verbally, where allowed) all of the required steps for each procedure.

Certification is valid for a period of five years from the date of successfully completing all requirements. Recertification requires the successful completion of both the written and performance examinations.

Request to be a Supplemental Examiner aka “Proctor”

ACI certifications provided through the CRMCA continue because of the volunteers assisting during each session. These active volunteers are the Supplemental Examiners, or “Proctors”, who administer the individual performance exam stations for various certifications and active Proctors are always needed. CRMCA members who are ACI certified are encouraged to volunteer as available. Please contact CRMCA’s JT Mesite to be included in the Proctor Distribution List and gain access the ACI Supplemental Examiner Training.

Proctor volunteers’ companies are eligible to receive credit towards future certifications. Proctors are approved by the acting Examiner of Record (EOR) and CRMCA has the right to decline individuals as Proctors or the use of Proctor credits.
