CRMCA strives to ensure examinees for ACI concrete certifications understand the appropriate ASTM procedures for testing performed in the field and laboratory. In developing training for ACI certifications, CRMCA determined that training should not be limited to individuals preparing for certification, but also for any technician in the concrete industry. The procedures for testing in the field and laboratory are meant to be followed consistently, therefore the CRMCA developed video assistance in 2020 to improve technicians’ understanding of the steps taken and reasons for concrete testing procedures.
At the beginning of this year, CRMCA updated the existing videos referencing the procedures for the ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1 certification and uploaded these to YouTube.
- ASTM C172 Sampling
- ASTM C1064 Temperature
- ASTM C143 Slump
- ASTM C138 Density (Unit Weight)
- ASTM C231 Air Content by Pressure
- ASTM C173 Volumetric Air (Roller meter)
- ASTM C31 Making and Curing Specimens
In March, new videos summarizing the ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician certification were added.
- ASTM C617 Capping Cylindrical Concrete Specimens
- ASTM C39 & C1231 Compressive Strength and Unbonded Specimens
- ASTM C78 Flexural Strength of Concrete (Simple Beams)
Additionally, the CRMCA continues to create video assistance for other concrete industry testing. A summary of shrinkage testing for cement material is available online. Concrete testing procedures, such as coring, durability, and maturity, are “in the works” for future videos.
These videos are meant to assist in training and understanding of the procedures presented. The development of these videos will continue to improve the consistency of field and laboratory testing in Colorado, surrounding regions, and globally.
