March 2020 President’s Blog

As is often said, times they are a changing. When I wrote the January blog our industry was focused on what we do best:  producing and delivering the products that make Colorado a better place to live. In just a short time, everything has changed. A global pandemic has swept the land, with Governor Jared Polis issuing a statewide stay-at-home order that is impacting millions of Coloradans. But as with other states and municipalities, Polis recognized the importance of infrastructure and construction to the State’s economy. He deemed our industry as essential in continuing to provide our communities with building materials that shape our economy. Never has it been more evident that the ready-mixed concrete industry is a necessary and binding thread in this country’s fabric. We supply material for Colorado’s roadways, runways, buildings and homes. We provide rewarding employment for thousands of the State’s most talented workers. As independent businesses, we also recognize that we are stronger together, which is what the CRMCA is all about.

While the COVID-19 virus has consumed most of our time as of late, we are focused on keeping our employees, customers and other stakeholders healthy and safe. Although we carry the essential designation, many of us have elected to have our employees work remotely. Think of how far we have come to be able to run many aspects of our businesses from afar. It wasn’t too long ago that a sales representative carried a pager and a role of quarters!  The CRMCA staff is completely remote, although I doubt anyone has noticed. Todd, Annelise, Emma and JT are as available as ever to assist our members in any way needed. Look for the Association to communicate through email updates and social media. We are continuing to hold our committee and other business meetings via webinar. We are building and delivering timely virtual educational sessions that are designed to assist you. The CRMCA has built an effective remote operating model, remaining flexible and at your service. And at this time, we are planning to move forward with the Mixer Truck Driver Championship on June 27 and the 2020 Summer Conference in Vail on July 30-31.

The stronger together theme is an important one. In trying times such as these, we must remember that we share common goals. We are proud of the products we create and the communities we serve. In the coming weeks and months, opportunities may arise to help one another in the spirit of stronger together. The CRMCA provides us the forum and the voice to advance our industry’s priorities. Whether it’s Build With Strength or our Concrete Testing Adherence Collaboration, what we do together makes a difference. Thank you for your continued support of the Association. I wish you and your families good health and wellness.
