Hello CRMCA Members. The wait for the highly anticipated “Toddblog” is over…………. Here is the latest version I’m sure you have been waiting for!
The year is quickly rolling by. Here we are at the 4th of July and the warm weather that goes with it. Hopefully everyone can enjoy the great outdoors in Colorado, with trips to the mountains or whatever works for you. We are fortunate to live in such a great state.
In addition to the CRMCA activities, I thought I would personalize this months report more than usual. With that in mind, 2 things happened in the month of June.
- First, Annelise was married on June 9. She and her now husband, Mike, traveled back to Virginia for the ceremony and surrounding festivities. We are proud of her as she enters this new phase of her life and wish her the best moving forward.
- Secondly, on ironically the same day of June 9, yours truly FINALLY graduated from college. I know many of you took the 4 year plan, many took 5 years. But not to be outdone, I was on the 6 year plan! After what seems like a very long time and a few late nights writing an endless stream of papers, I graduated from CSU with a Masters in Organizational Leadership. As a huge proponent of “Life Long Learning” I enjoyed the journey and the ability to implement learnings to help improve this association and industry. I want to thank the board for the support they have provided along the way, THANK YOU.
Back to the actual association. Our main emphasis for 2018 is on fundraising and the successful passing of our initiative on the 2018 ballot for a .62% general sales tax increase. This initiative puts much needed money directly towards state and local infrastructure projects. Working with our Construction Industry Coalition (CIC) members that include the Colorado Contractors, the Colorado Stone, Sand & Gravel, the Colorado Asphalt Pavement and the American Concrete Pavement Associations, we are raising between $2.7M and $3M for the construction portion of a statewide coalition. The overall statewide target of $9M is what is needed to run an effective campaign and the Let’s Go Colorado coalition is focused on raising this money. Our board of director’s has been very engaged in the fundraising efforts and are reaching out to all members requesting financial contributions. As many of you have stepped up with large contributions, I thank you on behalf of the industry. If you have not yet contributed, I urge you to take action and help resolve the shortcomings of our transportation system across Colorado. Contact me directly if you would like more info. We are currently in the signature gathering stage to meet the August 9 signature deadline, which is on or ahead of schedule. Let’s Go Colorado, and fix our transportation problems!
Lastly, I hope everyone can attend the CRMCA Summer Conference at the Hotel Talisa in Vail, July 19 and 20. The Hotel Talisa is the former site of the Vail Cascade and has been completely remodeled to make a great setting for the business meetings, networking opportunities and hack fest (golf, for me). Registration is available now.
Thanks for being part of CRMCA. Contact any of us if we can be of assistance. It is through your strong membership involvement that makes this a great and progressive trade association!
