Hello CRMCA Members. I hope everyone’s spring is going well. As we near the month of May, we know warm weather is on the way.
On May 4th we will hold our annual “Concrete Day at the Capitol” BBQ. Each year CRMCA joins with the American Concrete Pavement Association and the American Concrete Pipe Association to grill up about 500 burgers and hot dogs on the capital grounds. This is a great way to interact with elected officials and key staff members, and also a great way of thanking them for the efforts. If you would like to participate and volunteer for various roles, please contact Emma Dolan at our office.
Even though the legislative session is wrapping up, we remain very focused on new revenue sources for infrastructure funding. We continue to lobby members of congress to assist in these efforts and are hopeful regarding progress. However, our main emphasis is on fundraising to get an initiative on the 2018 ballot for a general sales tax increase that puts money directly towards state and local infrastructure projects. Our board of directors are very active in the fundraising efforts, as we have joined forces with a strong statewide coalition regarding this effort. Please join us in this fight, as now is the time to take action and help resolve our inefficient transportation system across Colorado.
I am pleased to announce the CRMCA Central Market Committee has developed a “Homeowner’s Exterior Concrete Maintenance Guide” to assist property owners to care for and extend the life of their new and existing exterior concrete, driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc. As flatwork can be a huge problem for our industry, this guide can be of great assistance in helping to eliminate issues that arise on projects. However, it will do no good unless you can help us get it in homeowners, contractors, and finishers hands. Please check out the guide then share with your clients and neighbors. Hard copy brochures are available by contacting the JT Mesite of the CRMCA directly.
A few other key dates for May include the “Decorative Concrete Seminar” on May 22 and the “Colorado Concrete Magazine Photo Contest” deadline, which is May 25. Information regarding both is available on our website or by calling the office.
Lastly, I hope everyone can attend the CRMCA Summer Conference in Vail. The Hotel Talisa, former site of the Vail Cascade, has been completely remodeled and will make a great setting for the business meetings and networking opportunities. Thanks for being part of CRMCA. It is through your strong membership involvement that makes this a great and progressive trade association!
