Hello CRMCA members. Welcome to the April 2017 President’s Blog! I hope you have had a good month. Please see the information below for CRMCA updates and news.
- Today, April 28, 2017 has been proclaimed by Governor Hickenlooper as Colorado Concrete Day. “Coloradans are today encouraged to recognize and celebrate the ready mixed concrete industry for its significant and enduring contributions to the economy of our state.” Read the proclamation in full for more details. In addition, CRMCA along with the American Concrete Pavement Association and the American Concrete Pipe Association are hosting a BBQ on the Capitol grounds from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. to celebrate the day!
- CRMCA has made steps towards improving the Adherence Program in the first months of 2017. The association is finally at a point where we can officially invite you to continue to perform assessments of your peers via iPhone app, web-based questionnaire, and PDF “paper” submittal. A big thanks to the companies who have continued to conduct assessments and test the app/online programming this would not be possible without your feedback and support! In addition, thank you to JT Mesite for his work on this program. Contact JT if you have any questions or would like to participate.
- The Build With Strength campaign is off and running in the state of Colorado! Over the last month, training sessions have been conducted on the Front Range and in the Western Slope. The association’s goal is to integrate the Build With Strength campaign into our organizational structure through Advocacy, Business Development, and Communications. Contact the association staff to see how you can get plugged in.
- Lastly, I must discuss HB-1242. On Tuesday, April 25 the Senate Finance Committee failed to pass HB-1242, the comprehensive transportation funding bill. After compelling testimony from mayors, chamber leaders, county commissioners, and representatives from organizations around the state, members of the Senate Finance Committee voted against the measure by a single vote margin. I applaud the efforts of Senate President Kevin Grantham, Speaker of the House Crisanta Duran, Senate Transportation Committee Chair Randy Baumgardner, and House Transportation & Energy Committee Chair Diane Mitsch Bush for their efforts to sponsor HB 1242 and make transportation a priority. Our challenge remains. We are absolutely committed to finding an answer to our transportation woes and we look forward to our continued efforts to achieve a solution and will continue to keep our membership informed.
I appreciate your commitment and dedication to the ready mixed industry concrete and the association. I hope to see many of you at the 2017 Summer Conference which will take place July 20-22 in Vail, Colorado at the recently renovated Hotel Talisa. Conference details and registration should be available in May.
