Welcome to my March 2015 Executive Directors Blog. With the snowiest February on record for Denver since 1912, we know it has been a rough start to the year. Hopefully the “in like a lion, out like a lamb” scenario will apply and better weather is ahead!
Our Safety Awards Luncheon took place last Friday and was a great success. 45 people were on hand for training and to receive team and individual recognition for their efforts toward safety. Our new Safety Innovation Award recognized those developing and/or implementing successful ideas that could be shared with other members, and are simple to adapt. More information is available in this eNews. Be sure to check it out. Pictures from the luncheon will be posted on our Facebook page and website later this month. Thanks to Martin Marietta for sponsoring the luncheon!
Also, with the 2015 Legislative Session in full swing, we remain busy tracking and weighing in on various bills and pending rulemaking. On February 19, I testified before the Colorado State Senate Committee on Transportation regarding SB15-172. This bill was an attempt to exponentially increase the red-tape involved in the already convoluted process of public-private partnerships under the guise of creating transparency. I am pleased to announce the bill was postponed indefinitely. Thanks to Totsy Rees, our lobbyist, for her diligent efforts and leadership at the Capitol.
Building upon our theme of “Strength in Numbers” I am attending the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s 2015 Annual Convention. During the convention I will be speaking with leaders from other state associations on our developing Testing Standards Adherence Program. I look forward to sharing our innovative approach with other leaders as we begin the beta testing phase of our program statewide.
I hope everyone’s year is off to a great start. Let Stacy, Annelise, or myself know if there is anything we can do to assist. Thanks.
