Fall is here and with it the final push of the construction season. This has been an interesting summer with the peculiar weather and increased activity in the industry. As we continue to provide construction materials to the great state of Colorado, we are faced with many challenges. The CRMCA staff in conjunction with our member participation have come together to help us handle some of these challenges. By forming strong committees with defined goals, our association is flourishing.
The Colorado Construction Industry Coalition and the joint Governmental Affairs Committee hosted Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Bob Beauprez to a meet and greet in September. CRMCA has officially endorsed Mr. Beauprez and we believe that he will bring some common sense to the capitol. In our discussions with Mr. Beauprez at the event, he shared with us that a main focus of his campaign is to reduce unnecessary regulation and get government out of our way in order to afford us the opportunity to do what we do best. I urge everyone to get out and vote this November.
The CRMCA continues to show growth and increased activity. Our committees are busier than ever with completing goals for this year and looking at next year’s work load. The Jay Martin Memorial Golf Tournament presented by the CRMCA Southern Marketing Committee was a great success. Participation was more than double over last year. We were able to hold the monthly Board of Directors meeting in conjunction with this event, and I want to personally thank everyone who was able to come out to play at the Air Force Academy. Our other marketing committees are working on seminars and lunch & learns to continue our focus of educating the municipalities, contractors and specification writers about our industry. The Technical Committee is diligently working with CDOT and other entities to further our relationships. The Pre-Con Checklist that was introduced earlier this year is receiving favorable reviews across many construction sites here in Colorado. I encourage everyone to continue to use this document, it not only helps protect ready mix producers, but also helps to provide the best services to the owners and contractors.
In preparation for our annual budget and review discussion, our Executive Director, Todd Ohlheiser, presented our partnering proposal to the Portland Cement Association’s Board. This year’s successes can be directly connected to the support of our friends at the PCA. Their support and partnership are vital and greatly appreciated.
In the next few months we will be holding several events. Unfortunately, I can’t speak to all of them, but I’d like to highlight two of my personal favorites. The CRMCA Annual Concrete Clay Shoot at Colorado Clays in Brighton is always a fun filled day of networking and shooting. The other much anticipated event is the Annual Meeting at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. This will be the first time in many years that the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association and the Colorado Stone, Sand & Gravel Association will hold their annual conferences together. I hope to see all of you at both events.
I realize that I sound like a broken record, but I truly believe that participation is the key to our association’s success. Contact crmca@crmca.org to learn more on how you can get involved.
