In an ever-evolving concrete industry, we have to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, best practices, and industry standards. To address the changing needs and ongoing issues faced by the industry and CRMCA members, CRMCA Regional Committees lead the charge to develop a Tech Ed series, CRMCA’s Tech Tuesdays. This program initiative aims to educate and engage CRMCA members, as well as their clients, municipalities, architects, engineers, and other key project stakeholders.
Tech Tuesdays is meant to provide valuable information and insights into various aspects of the concrete industry. We want to foster innovation, promote collaboration, and enhance the overall knowledge base within the construction community through addressing ongoing changes and industry-specific challenges. These events will be initially conducted in a hybrid format, accommodating both in-person attendance and remote participation, for maximum accessibility.
The initial topics and dates planned are as follows, subject to change depending on demand and needs of the concrete industry:
- April 2 – Initial Curing Processes: Exploring the correct, consistent, and effective curing methods to enhance concrete strength, durability, and overall quality.
- May 14th – Hot Weather Concrete: Discuss techniques and practices to mitigate issues associated with concrete placement and curing in Colorado.
- June 11th – Flatwork Finishing Best Practices: Understanding the latest flatwork techniques, general tools, and strategies to achieve optimal finishing results.
- July 9th – CTAC 101: A re-introduction to the Concrete Testing Adherence Collaboration (CTAC) first developed in Colorado and how to use the tool to best benefit Producers, Testing Agencies, and Inspection Firms.
- August 13th – Spec Updates: Changes in CDOT, ACI, ASTM, and Municipalities: Staying informed about the recent updates and revisions to specifications, codes, and regulations from various governing bodies in Colorado.
- September 10th – Cold Weather Concrete: Discuss the challenges associated with concrete placement and curing in Colorado, including tips for successful winter concreting.
- October 8th – Pre-Con Checklist: Highlighting the most important steps before a project begins utilizing the CRMCA’s document to ensure a smooth and efficient concrete placement process.
- November 12th – EPDs/Carbon Calculator: Diving deeper into the significance of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and exploring how carbon calculators can quantify the environmental impact of concrete.
We want to invite our members to increase the involvement of everyone involved in the Colorado concrete industry through the Tech Tuesday series. With member feedback, CRMCA will continue to improve these sessions to meet participants’ specific needs and enhance the overall learning experience. Those interested in contributing or joining the process are encouraged to contact JT Mesite at jt@coloradocaa.org for further details.
