It’s hard to believe that a month and a half of 2024 has already passed. For such a short amount of time the CRMCA has been busy.
We were able to start the year with some great networking and association events. Including, the annual Night at the Rodeo on January 11th and the Ski Retreat in Breckenridge on January 29th. Both events were well attended. The staff and I would again like to thank the sponsors for both these events, it wouldn’t be possible without your help.
The 2024 legislative session began on January 10th and our legislative subcommittee is working hard to keep tabs on all the relevant activities at the capitol. A meeting to discuss these activities is hosted by the committee every Tuesday morning at 8am. Our first legislative luncheon (over the traditional legislative breakfast) on January 24th was a huge success, with over 35 eager participants. We were able to get the inside scoop on happenings inside the capitol from Senator Barbara Kirkmeyer. Brian Lewandowski with the CU Boulder LEEDS School of Business was also there to share some of his knowledge and research regarding the 2024 economy. Upcoming events for the legislative subcommittee are the next legislative luncheon on February 28th at 11:45, and an Advocacy Outreach event at the Grant Humphreys Mansion on March 27th. I would like to encourage all of you to attend, higher attendance helps to keep us relevant with our legislators.
More exciting news in the beginning of 2024 is the renewed emphasis and updates being made to the CTAC program. The improved format will help to make CTAC the tool we need to start eliminating testing issues on our individual jobsites. The ability to quickly pull project level data in an easy to read and communicate format will be essential in pre and post construction meetings. As you all know, improper testing, specifically curing, has been a continual headache for the entire industry for longer than should be allowable. The new emphasis on mix optimization to lower the carbon footprint of our concrete is further highlighting the need for improved and correct testing, we can no longer afford to compensate for bad testing with over designed mixes. As it is, the CTAC program is all about power in numbers. I would like to encourage all of you to use it to its full potential.
