Every day, concrete mixer drivers deliver essential materials to construction sites of all sizes across the world. In Colorado, the mixer drivers were recognized for the second year in a row during the CRMCA Mixer Truck Driver Championship on Saturday, July 22, 2023. The event is state-wide and member-driven to promote and celebrate our drivers that perform an important task.
The event is a fun time for the drivers, combining the tests of a driver’s skills, knowledge, and awareness in and around a mixer truck. The competition mirror’s the National Ready Mixed Concrete Associations competition, which consists of a written exam, a Safety Check walk-around, and an obstacle course. The first two events are meant to evaluate the driver’s understanding of the trucks they drive and the rules and responsibilities of being a mixer truck driver. The third event, the obstacle course, challenges drivers to know the vehicle they drive daily. The obstacle course this year included eight stations challenging the drivers to parallel park, back up, stop correctly on a scale, etc., plus an additional “bonus” chute bowling event.
The 2nd Annual CRMCA Mixer Truck Driver Championship event was a great continuation to elevate one of the industry’s most important roles. This year’s competitors included fifteen mixer truck drivers from across Colorado’s Front Range and mountain areas. In addition, there were nearly twenty-five volunteers from the industry making the event run smooth, and close to 150 spectators for the free and exciting event! Thank you also to the volunteers, you all were a great help to make the CRMCA Mixer Truck Driver Championship a success.
